Jarrod Schindler, flute

Appearing in Brilliant Brahms on Sunday 28 November

Jarrod Schindler holds a Bachelor of Music (Performance) with First Class Honours and a Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Queensland. His time at university allowed him to study flute with Patrick Nolan and Jeanette Manricks, chamber music with Spiros Rantos, Paul Dean, Sergei Korschmin and Hugh Ponnuthurai, and musicianship and music education with James Cuskelly and Réka Csernyik.

Jarrod is currently Principal Flute with the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra. Jarrod is an alumnus of Australian Youth Orchestra programmes and the Queensland Youth Orchestras. He has held the position of Principal Piccolo with the Queensland Youth Symphony and toured with the orchestra to Germany, Italy, and France in 2008. In 2007 and 2008 he directed the chamber music series of the Queensland Youth Orchestras and conducted the Chamber Orchestra numerous times. In addition to this, he has performed as soloist and Principal Flute with the University of Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

As a conductor, Jarrod continues to receive mentorship from Werner Andreas Albert (former Chief Conductor of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra), John Curro (Director of Music of the Queensland Youth Symphony), and Réka Csernyik (Director of Choral Conducting at the University of Queensland). Jarrod has also performed in master classes with Christopher Seaman through the Symphony Australia Conductor Development programme.

He has been an avid chorister and has sung with the So-La Voce Chamber Choir, the University of Queensland Chorale, and the Queensland Kodaly Choir.

Jarrod currently holds the position of Music Teacher at Grace Lutheran College in Caboolture and Woodwind Specialist divided between Grace and its feeder school, St Paul’s Lutheran Primary. In addition to running the classroom music programme, Jarrod directs the instrumental ensembles at Grace and coaches Year 7 basketball and soccer.

“Becoming responsible for the musical success of future musicians could not be more rewarding. I’m involved with music almost every minute of the day and nothing could challenge my musicianship more, technically or emotionally.”

Jarrod is currently preparing for his first grade viola exam, studying with the fabulous Robyn Weir and Daniel Edwards. He attained his bow license very early on and has since been told by many string professionals that his bow hold is exceptional [for a flute player!].
