Participation & Commitment
Weekly rehearsals take place on Wednesdays from 7:30pm to 10:00pm at the Old Museum Building, Bowen Hills. Usually one rehearsal per concert is scheduled for a Sunday from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. There are usually between four to six performances spread evenly through the year on Sundays between 3:00pm and 5:30pm.
Members are required to commit for an entire year and attend all rehearsals, tours, and performances.
Principal members are appointed to a two-year term. Principals are required to commit to the orchestra for the entire two year period. However, the BPO understands that personal circumstances may change during this period. All capable individuals are encouraged to apply for principal positions despite not knowing where they may be in two years' time.
Absences due to significant family commitments, health issues, or other serious issues are unavoidable and the BPO understands cases of reasonable absence. Woodwind, brass, and percussion members must find a replacement during their absence.
Members are also required to participate in the organisational operations of the orchestra. This may involve taking on a executive committee position, an officer’s role, or helping with basic tasks (mail-outs, programme notes, tree-planting, supper, etc).
Membership fee discounts favour members who perform for the entire year.
